Colorado Avalanche decide not to offer qualifying tender to forward Peter Mueller -NHL Update
Health issues are definitely a concern for any National Hockey League (NHL) franchise and in the case of young forward, Peter Mueller, it has led the Colorado Avalanche to decline the option of offering him a qualifying tender.
According to a report published on The Denver Post, Colorado Avalanche will not be making the offer to Mueller, making him an unrestricted free agent on Sunday, July 1, 2012.
A combination of concussions and other injuries, Mueller has failed in making a significant impact in the NHL these past few seasons and has led to Colorado’s unwillingness to give him another chance.
It was back in August of 2011 that Mueller was optimistic of making a comeback for the 2011-2012 NHL regular season but reoccurring headaches and a torso injury forced him to appear in just 32 games and pot 16 points (7 goals, 8 assists).
"I'm excited to be a hockey player again," Mueller said. "Obviously, I've had concussions in the past and it's something I have to deal with, but right now everything is in the right direction. Everything is pointing forward. I'm excited that it's all behind
me."
Colorado Avalanche had Peter Mueller on a two-year contract worth $4 million with an annual salary cap hit of $2 million. He signed the two-year deal after a three-year, entry-level contract and played well enough to stay on the club, but these past two
seasons have been unfortunate for the player.
Drafted as the eighth overall player back in round-one of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by Phoenix Coyotes, Mueller had a significant opening to his career but lost it when he was traded to Colorado Avalanche during the 2009-2010 regular season.
In a total of 254 games played in his four-year career, Peter Mueller has 143 points (55 goals, 88 assists) under his belt and is definitely a player with a lot of potential.
It is not clear at the moment how the player’s condition is or whether he is in talks with another team right now, but hopefully, there are a number of clubs that will be ready to negotiate with him if his health does not come in the way.
