Colorado Avalanche goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere leaves with Groin Injury against Vancouver Cancuks
Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks are still going at it in their intense matchup which at the moment remains tied for 1-1, but the former was deprived of their veteran goalie, Jean-Sebastien Giguere, during the first period to an apparent groin injury, announced the team.
Giguere spent 16:06 on the ice and nearly finished of the first period with a .889 save percentage and managed to block eight attempts but failed on a single one as Vancouver Canucks’ David Booth got the backhander through him in the opening 13 seconds.
After the quick shot by Booth, Giguere got a shock straight into the contest which looks as if got to the best of him and he struggled the block the remaining and ultimately led into him being injured.
The Colorado Avalanche announced the news during the matchup after the player was called out and examined by the medical team available, via social media networking website, Twitter, a groin problem along with not being able to comeback.
At the moment, it is not clear whether the goalie will be able to comeback in their next game or is it a serious injury or not, but as he has left to be thoroughly examined, which also results in a number of tests, it is expected that the team will most probably make the announcement later on the next day.
The 34-year-old veteran goalie, who is a native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, was picked up as the 13th overall draft pick during round-one of the 1995 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by the then Hartford Whalers.
He also has played with the Calgary Flames, Anaheim Ducks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche.
Jean-Sebastien Giguere has played 27 games this season and managed to win 14 games while losing nine along with an average save percentage of .924 along with a 2.12 goals against average.
Giguere has not seen the playoffs since the 2008-2009 NHL regular season with the Anaheim Ducks and is certainly hoping for a much better position this time around as the Colorado Avalanche sit at number 10 in the Western Conference with 60 points, only three away from the eighth number spot.
