Colorado Avalanche lose Craig Anderson, Adam Foote
The Colorado Avalanche may be without starting goal tender Craig Anderson and captain Adam Foote for the foreseeable future. The pair went down with injuries in a 4-2 loss to division
rivals the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday 24 November.
Anderson sat out the second and third periods of the game after reportedly sustaining a groin injury somewhere in the first. Anderson allowed one goal in seven shots. Peter Budaj took
over in nets for the remainder of the game, allowing three goals on 12 shots. This was Anderson’s second start after being sidelined for 10 games with a knee injury. Budaj posted a 6-3-1 record in that time span.
Veteran defenceman Adam Foote was also hurt in the first period. The Avalanche captain had to be helped off the ice after injuring his leg as a result of a hit from Vancouver forward Jeff
Tambelini. The hit occurred in the final minutes of the first period. Foote did not return to the game.
This is bad news for the Avalanche who lost their place atop the North West division with last night’s defeat. Anderson surprised the hockey world by powering the Avalanche to the play-offs
in a season where most pre-season predictions placed the team last in the Western Conference. In that time, the 29-year-old set multiple Colorado Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques franchise regular season goaltending records, including minutes played (2,233) saves
(2,047) and games played (71),
The 39-year-old team captain Adam Foote has played for the Colorado Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques for most of his career. Drafted 22nd overall in the 1989 entry draft when the franchise was
based in Quebec City, Foote was part of the powerhouse Avalanche teams that won the Stanley Cup in 1996 and 2001. After long-time Avalanche captain Joe Sakic announced his retirement, the Avalanche named Foote as his successor on 11 September, 2009.
