Colorado Avalanche lose third straight in Canadian road trip as Edmonton Oilers rally to victory 4-1

Colorado could not have had it worse on their three-game road trip as the Avalanche lost all in a row starting off with the Vancouver Canucks, followed by the Calgary Flames and now lastly, the Edmonton Oilers,4-1, on Friday night, December 9, 2011, at the
sold-out Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Edmonton also used Colorado to snap their two-game losing streak against Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes, now having gained some momentum with a dominating win, they hope to continue playing with the same force when they kick off their three-game
road trip against the Flames on Saturday.
"Now we can look at tonight as a semblance of what we're capable of and use that tomorrow night going into Calgary," Oilers coach, Tom Renney, said.
Sam Gagner made the opening goal nearly midway through the first period on their initial power play opportunity of the night on a breakaway attempt after taking control of the puck unassisted.
Bean Eager followed up by scoring his second of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season with less than a minute to go to give Edmonton a more than comfortable lead heading into the next 20 minute period.
Jay McClement finally put Colorado on the scoreboard with his fifth at the 3:29 mark to break Edmonton’s momentum, but it did not go as planned since Jordan Eberle added on another Colorado’s second penalty of the period with Kyle Quincey out for slashing
with a minor and Sam Gagner adding his second of the night with three seconds to go until the second buzzer sounded.
"It was huge for us to bounce back like this," Edmonton rookie, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, said. "Tonight we stuck to the game plan and it really paid off, especially against a team like this."
"It was a big improvement, a better effort and just way more commitment to the little things we need to do to be successful," Renney added.
Colorado will have another chance to snap their losing streak when they return home on Tuesday to face the San Jose Sharks before going to their home stadium to face them again in back-to-back contests.
