Colorado Avalanche optimistic for second half of 2011-2012 Regular Season -NHL Update
After an exciting first half of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and a great 2012 All-Star Game Weekend, the Colorado Avalanche team is certainly optimistic about the second phase as they plan on making their push to the playoffs
a reality this time around.
Colorado might be sitting slightly below the playoff line in the Western Conference rankings at the ninth spot with 54 points, but winning their next game against the Edmonton Oilers scheduled for Tuesday, January 31, 2012, could put them ahead of the Minnesota
Wild, who sit at number eight with 55 points.
December had been the best month for the Avalanche as they secured 10 wins out of 15 games played, allowing them to climb back into the rankings. They have not done as good in January so far, but according to them, the upcoming month of February will certainly
be one they are looking forward to in order to grab some crucial positioning.
"We had a real good month in December," Avalanche coach, Joe Sacco, said after practice on Monday. "We were able to take advantage of our home games. January was a grind and I think we were able to come out of it somewhat successful. I think the guys for
the most part have responded well; they played hard and we battled our way back into the thick of things. We have a very tough and competitive conference”.
Colorado at the moment, stands with a record of 26-23-2and is currently on a two game losing streak, which they hopefully aim of snapping when they go head-to-head against Edmonton.
Last season was a nightmare for Colorado Avalanche as they faced a number of injuries with their main players out of the scene but this time around, with all the new acquisitions, especially their second overall draft pick, Gabriel Landeskog, and a healthy
Milan Hejduk to provide veteran guidance to the rookies.
Focusing on Colorado’s performance during the second half of the season will be crucial as the team has some big plans in terms of taking their club to the postseason, potentially making them one of those line-ups that amaze in the end.
