Colorado Avalanche plays host to Toronto Maple Leafs in the one and only meeting between them
Colorado Avalanche will play host to Toronto Maple Leafs in another one of Thursday’s game. This is the one and only meeting between the two teams during the course of the season.
The last time that they two faced each other was during last season which was won by Avalanche, 4-1.
There are only eight games left for Maple Leafs for the remaining part of the regular season. Though there isn’t a strong chance, there is a slight probability that Maple Leafs might make its way into the cut.
In order to do so it has to step up its game and win games and score crucial points.
Maple Leafs has to face the teams above them in the league like Buffalo Sabres and Detroit Red Wings who are above it in the standings and this will give them a chance to crawl up the standings.
On the other hand, Avalanche is out of the playoff’s contention and will be looking to play as a spoiler’s role in the game.
Maple Leafs has put up some decent performances against the last teams it has faced, winning two consecutive games. It has won three out of its last four games and needs to win all of its last eight games if it wants a chance of making it into the cut.
It has Carolina Hurricanes between them and Sabres who occupy the final playoff spot.
Maple Leafs came up with a decent performance in its last game against Minnesota Wild. It not only scored three goals but ended the night with a 3-0 shutout performance.
"You could just see the energy in our whole team," Leafs’ coach, Ron Wilson, said of his team's effort. "It wasn't just the goalie. Everybody was on top of things."
During the course of the season, Maple Leafs has played 74 games out of which it has won 33 games in regulation time and 10 games in overtime to score a total of 76 points.
On the other hand, Avalanche has played 72 games out which it has won 28 games in regulation time and eight games in overtime to score a total of 64 points.
Maple Leafs is at the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference while Avalanche is at the 14th spot in the Western Conference.
Avalanche has been in good form in the last two games and won both of them.
Avalanche was involved in its last game against Columbus Blue Jackets this Tuesday which saw Colorado winning the game by 5-4 after a shootout.
"We have to play the role of spoiler right now, and we have to take pride in that", Avalanche’s goaltender, Brian Elliott, said after the game.
