Colorado Avalanche re-sign Kevin Porter, Ryan Wilson to one-year contracts –NHL offseason Update
Colorado Avalanche avoided their arbitration hearing set for later this month, as they signed centre player, Kevin Porter, and defenseman, Ryan Wilson, to one-year contracts each. Porter was reported to have signed a one-year, $850,000 contract while Wilson,
a one-year, $1.275 million deal.
Both Wilson and Porter were the only Colorado players who had filed for salary arbitration on the deadline, which was July 5, and now have finally reached an agreement with their team before it could take place.
They will both be entering their third consecutive season with Colorado.
"We are pleased to have both Kevin and Ryan under contract”, said Colorado Avalanche general manager, Greg Sherman, making the official announcement on Saturday, July 9.  "We look forward to seeing them at training camp”.
Porter, a 25-year-old forward from Detroit, Michigan, United States, played his fourth National Hockey League (NHL) season with Colorado.
He was drafted in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft as the 119th overall pick in round-four by Phoenix Coyotes and played with them for two seasons. Kevin Porter registered a total of 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) with Phoenix, in a 38 game appearances
with them.
Last season, Porter recorded career high statistics by playing 74 games and registered 25 points (14 goals, 11 assists) with Colorado.
Wilson, unlike Porter, was picked up by Colorado from playing in their minor league affiliate, Lake Erie Monsters in the American Hockey League (AHL). He has played two seasons in the NHL up until now, both with Avalanche, in which played 128 games and has
registered 37 points (6 goals, 31 assists) in total.
Residing from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, the 24-year-old defender is expected to grow into a much better and professional player in the upcoming season.
Colorado struggled last season and remained in the lower ranks throughout. Being a team with great potential, they hope to make a bigger impact when the new season starts in October.
With a couple of top draft picks this time in the NHL Entry Draft, things are expected to turn around for Colorado and their run for a championship.
