Colorado Avalanche vs LA Kings in Vegas?

They have anounced that the kings will be playing the avs in an exabition game Sept 27 at the MGM grand. Do you think it will sell out? Apparently this is the 11th time an NHL match has taken place in Vegas. If it's got the fan support why don't they just get a team?

  1. This city falls on its face when it comes to sports, our minor league hockey team got NO press coverage this year until we made it to the finals and then everyone suddenly cares.

I haven't heard anything about LA vs COL here, but I do know that the Ducks and the Sharks will play a preseason game at the Orleans this year.

  2. They probobaly will sell out, and yes, Las Vegas would be a good place to have a hockey team. They've got a lot of hockey fans and a ton of money to support a franchise.

  3. They've been doing exhibition games at the MGM for the last 10 years now and the Kings have participated in all of them.  The Avs were the opponents in all but 2 of those years.  The games usually do sell-out, but the last couple of years have not been as quickly as they used to.

Vegas has a minor league team, but I think with the recent gambling problems involving the NHL they are too afraid to move a team there anytime soon.

  4. It sells out every year. Why? Because it's only ONCE a year. Play five games like that, and see what happens by the fifth game. Anyway, I'll be at the Ducks-Sharks rookie game at the Orleans Arena, where real hockey fans in Vegas go, not that over-priced and over-hyped dump at the MGM.

Btw, the arena is being built behind the Strip, catering to tourists as usual.

  5. I think it'll sell out. If I lived out west I'd go, but I don't.

I haven't heard about this yet though.....do you have any links?

  6. i think it'll probably sell out...

for those of u who want a link of what Frozen Fury is, here it is:

  7. Below is a link to memories of a participant of an event which took place in Vegas years ago. Happy reading.

  8. that would be really good for the sport. id love to go to that.

  9. Vegas will eventually get a team.  They are in the process of of building an arena that will support an NHL or NBA team just outside Vegas.  The NBA likely wont try to put a team there after that problem they had with their ref.  The NHL is already looking like they want to expand and they already have several people interested in team, but it will most likely be Jerry Bruckenheimer (SP?).

I didnt hear they were actually having a game there this year though.  If its in September like you said than it will only be a pre season game though.

Add: Sorry, didnt see the exhibition part in your question.
