Colorado Avalanche wins 3-2 against Edmonton Oiler in a shootout after a goalless overtime
Another one of Saturday’s games was played at the Rexall Place as the Edmonton Oilers hosted Colorado Avalanche.
Both teams are out of the playoffs’ contention as they are in the last two positions in the Western Conference but a win for them would be confidence boosting in a season which has been quite disappointing.
The game began with both teams making a decent start but it was Avalanche who scored the lone goal of the period to get into the lead.
The second period saw Oilers scoring to level the scores but Avalanche scored once again to get back into the lead.
The final period saw Avalanche scoring the lone goal of the period to level the scores as the regulation time ended.
The game went into overtime but no goals were scored there but Avalanche emerged as 3-2 winners of the game after a shootout.
Kurtis Foster of Oilers was named the star of the game as he scored a goal and came up with an important assist during the game.
Both teams made a decent start to the game and there were several chances for both teams. However, they weren’t able to find the back of the net. With the passage of time the shots and passing increased and the play making got better and better.
Avalanche managed to score in the 10th minute through Matt Duchene’s decent flick shot to get into the lead.
The period saw a few more shots on goal but no further goals were scored. The period ended with Avalanche leading 1-0. During the course of the period, Avalanche made 10 shots on goal while Oilers made 6 shots on goal.
The second period saw both teams making a decent start where they came up with a few shots on goal. There were some decent plays that were developed by both teams during the course of the period.
However, it wasn’t until the 14th minute that we saw a goal. The goal was scored by Jordan Eberle from a brilliant backhand shot.
The period moved on with both teams continuing to attack but it was Avalanche who scored once again in the 17th minute through Kevin Porter’s superb backhand shot to get back into the lead.
The final period began with Oilers dominating the possession as they fired 16 shots on goal compared to the five made by Avalanche. Oilers scored the lone goal of the period through Kurtis Foster from a simple tip-in shot to level the scores.
The game went into overtime where no goals were scored but it was Avalanche who emerged as 3-2 winners of the game after the shootout.
