Colorado Avalanche’s Adam Foote to miss two games with concussion
The Colorado Avalanche’s defence corps have taken another big hit, losing yet another of their defencemen.
Adam Foote is slated to miss the Avalanche’s next two games with a concussion. Foote suffered the concussion during the first period of Colorado’s 4-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Thursday,
21 October. He had slammed his head into the glass behind the Avalanche’s net, and did not return to the game.
Foote, who currently serves as the Avalanche’s team captain, did not play in the team’s next game against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, 23 October, and will not accompany the team
when they embark on a two-game road trip.
The Avalanche received some good news when fellow defenceman Scott Hannan resumed practicing with the team recently. Hannan suffered a head injury during the 6-4 loss to the Kings, and
did not complete the game. The fact that Hannan has resumed regular practice is a great sign.
“I’ll know more after I talk to our medical staff, but it was encouraging that he made it through practice today,” Avalanche head coach Joe Sacco said. “We’ll see how he presents later
on and how he presents in the morning.”
While Foote will not travel with the team as they face the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames, Hannan will. The loss of the captain also means that the Avs’ line-up will be lacking some
leadership. Despite that, the team does have other veteran players who can step up and carry the load at any time.
“There are a couple other guys who are leaders on the back end in Johnny Liles and Scott Hannan,” said Avs defenceman Ryan Wilson. “Those guys have been great to all the young guys. They’re
out there doing their thing, and they lead by example rather than being vocal.”
Colorado will face the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday, 26 October, and will visit the Calgary Flames on Thursday, 28 October. They return home to Denver on Saturday, 30 October, where they
will host the Columbus Blue Jackets.
