Colorado Avalanche’s Captain Gabriel Landeskog coming back home to play in Swedish league
19-year-old Gabriel Landeskog, a Swedish professional ice hockey player, who plays for Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League (NHL), has gone back to his native country during the NHL lockout and will be playing there Djurgardens IF in the Elitserien
Hockey League (SEL).
Exactly one month ago, on 4th September 2012, Landeskog had become youngest captain in the history of NHL when he was named captain of the Colorado Avalanche at the age 19 years, nine months and 13 days then, as he was just 11 days younger than
the previous record holder Sidney Crosby who was 19 years mine months and 24 days when he became captain of Pittsburgh Penguins.
Djurgardens IF is the place where the Stockholm, Sweden born forward had started his hockey career at the age of 15, when he played for their junior, under-20 team. Going back to the place where he started his career, has made him happy and excited as he
will once again be able to play in front of his family and the friends.
The 6-foot-1, 207 pounder player expressed his feelings on Twitter as he told how jubilant he is to be back in his home as he tweeted on @GabeLandeskog92,
“Heading home to my old team Djurgarden. So excited to get back on the ice infront of family and friends. And especially, to play the game!”
Colorado Avalanche right winger also tweeted for his fans in Colorado that he will miss all of them and he also hoped that he would be back soon, as the NHL lockout ends, as he added,
“Gonna miss all the Avs fans at the Pepsi Center, you guys are one of a kind. I hope to see you all back as soon as possible”.
Avalanche fans surely will be missing him, as he got them very close to qualifying in playoffs and made an instant impact after getting selected 2nd overall in the first round of the 2011 NHL Draft.
Landeskog scored 22 goals and 30 assists in 82 regular season games that he played last season. He would be looking to keep himself fit and in-form in the Swedish League so that he is in good condition when he gets back to lead the Avalanche side.
