Colorado Avalanche’s Joey Hishon out due to injury for the game against Saint John Sea Dogs - NHL
A rising name in the world of NHL (National Hockey League) and an expected inclusion in Colorado Avalanche’s lineup, Joey Hishon, will be missing the game against Saint John Sea Dogs due to an injury the youngster sustained in the last game against Kootenay Ice.
Owen Sound Attack’s centre has been a key player for the team in the MasterCard Memorial Cup so far and therefore, there is concern regarding his fitness. The player sustained an injury after being struck by an elbow in the game against Kootenay Ice, last Saturday.
Hishon has been performing impressively in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), scoring 24 points in the play-offs till now.
He has scored five goals and bagged a total of 19 assists that have enabled him to be named among the best players in the league. His coach, Mark Reeds, said that the player is an important part of the team and certainly wasn’t going to play until he is fully fit.
Therefore, he is expected to undergo a concussion test to ensure he is fully fit.
"We'll have some indication when we get the results back", said Reeds.
Hishon was the 17th overall draft pick during the 2010 NHL Draft and the coach said that he was playing quite well. The youngster was part of the team that was cruising towards victory with a 5-0 score.
However, the opposing team’s captain, Brayden McNabb, was coming onto Hishon and despite his efforts to avoid him, he couldn’t get away from the elbow that struck him and sent him out of the game for good.
As a result, McNabb, Buffalo Sabres’ 2009 third round pick, was penalized for a major foul, being suspended for Kooteny’s next game. With McNabb out of the game, Kootney lost the game and would miss his services for their next game as well.
Daniel Zweep is an expected replacement for Hishon. Zweep also has a lot to offer as he scored two goals and a total of six points in 48 games during the regular season.
Hishon was brilliant in the regular season and was one of the main players in the team’s transition play. He bagged 49 assists, the highest number of assists for the team, scoring a total of 86 points.
"You can't really replace a player like that, but we've played without him a few times this year and we've done great", Owen Sound’s centre, Andrew Shaw, said. "We've just got to have a lot of guys step up and play better".
