Colorado Avalanche’s winger/centre Matt Duchene to play with HC Frolunda in Swedish league
Matt Duchene, a professional ice hockey player from Canada and a centre/winger who plays for the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League (NHL), has signed for HC Frolunda, a club that plays in the Sweden ice hockey league.
In a series of players who are joining the European clubs after the NHL lockout, Duchene became another Colorado Avalanche player to join a European team after their goaltender Semyon Varlamov joined Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League last week.
The 21-year-old youngster looked very excited on this new deal with the Frolunda team and is looking forward to joining his new team very soon. The player who spent most of the last year out because of the injury is looking to play some hockey and get back
into action.
The Haliburton, Ontario native talked to his fans on a social networking website, Twitter and expressed his feelings about his pride on joining the Swedish league and eagerness to join his new team as he tweeted on @Matt9Duchene,
"Proud to be new member of Frolunda_ET! Can't wait to arrive in Gothenburg (Sweden) on Thursday evening and to get an Indians jersey on”.
At the same time he also tweeted to his Colorado Avalanche fans and told them he would be looking to get back as soon as possible and hopes that lockout ends soon, as he tweeted,
"To all the Avs fans, I'm even more excited to get back in the Burgundy and Blue! Hopefully it is soon."
The 5-foot-11, 200 pounder was selected in the top three of the 2009 NHL Draft as the Avalanche selected him 3rd overall in the first round of the draft three years ago. He made his NHL debut in the same season and has not mixed much of the action
except for the injury last season, as since then as he has managed to play 81 games in the 2009-2010 season, 80 games in the 2010-2011 season and 58 games in the last season.
His point scoring has also been very well as in total of 219 games, he has managed to score 65 goals and 85 assists for a total of 150 points.
