Colorado Buffalo’s Dan Hawkins to remain until seasons end
The Denver Post has reported that Colorado Buffaloes head coach Dan Hawkins will remain with the club at least until the end of the 2010 season.
The head coach recently came under criticism after the team’s dreadful 52-45 loss at the hands of the Kansas Jayhawks on 6 November. The club has now dropped all five of their conference games and sits at the bottom of the Big 12 North division. After the
game, Hawkins walked out on his post-game interview and it was rumoured that he would be fired.
However, the university’s athletic director Mike Bohn made it clear that Hawkins would remain with the squad at least until the end of the season.
“It goes without saying that this game was extremely disappointing on many levels and obviously these developments do not meet our expectations,” Bohn said in a statement. “That’s not to disparage Kansas’ accomplishments in any way. While we share many of
the same frustrations and serious disappointment as our fans, I have confidence in this group of seniors to represent this team and the university with both pride and a competitive spirit the rest of the season.”
The Buffaloes have been devastated by injuries at quarterback, where they only have one scholarship player left at the position.
The Buffaloes also struggled in 2009, a season in which the team finished 3-9 and the school president and chancellor both took heat for not parting ways with Hawkins.
It is likely that the school will stick with Hawkins for the remainder of the season and begin searching for a new coach in the off-season. Colorado is expected to have a new staff in place before they begin their first season in the Pac-12 in 2011.
The Buffaloes next take the field against the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday 13 November.
