Colorado Rapids 2-1 Vancouver Whitecaps: Scott Palguta scores a second half winner

http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scott-Palguta-c32669’s 68th minute goal doubled the lead and proved insurmountable as the Rapids defeated the Caps
with a close 2-1 score line.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Camilo-c8287 Sanvezzo’s goal nine minutes later might have drawn the match.
The Caps, although complete underdogs at the site, proved a match for the reigning MLS Cup champions.
While both teams boasted of equal ball possession, the Rapids outshot the Whitecaps 15 to 11. Shots on target were almost evenly matched though as the Caps hit four shots on target compared to the hosts’ five.
The first goal came in the 25th minute when midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Smith-c17736 dribbled onto the left flank and fed Casey with an inch-perfect cross inside the box. The striker slotted it with his right foot, low into the far post for an early lead.
The Caps fought back and held the ball well for the remainder of the first period. The Canadians created some chances in the process but the final touch was hard to come by.
The Rapids increased their lead to 2-0 in 68th minute. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-c2929 Harvey’s foolish tackle won the Rapids a free-kick. Smith stepped up to take the kick, and the ball ended up at Palguta’s feet in the six-yard box. His right-footed shot ended in the
top right corner of the netting.
Sanvezzo, however, brought the Rapids’ lead down to one goal in 77th minute. Nizar Khalfan notched the assist on the consolation goal. The midfielder fed Camilo near the box with a through pass. The Brazilian dribbled into the penalty area and
his left footed shot ended in the bottom left corner.
Despite playing their first league season, the Caps fought well and could have taken all three points home had Khalfan’s touch not let him down in the 58th and 74th minute of the match.
