Colorado Rapids edge past Columbus Crew to Conference semi-finals with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Omar-Cummings-c28557 goal
Omar Cummings scored the only goal of the game for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Columbus-Crew-c38850 packing in the Major League Soccer play-offs wildcard game at d**k’s Sporting Goods Park on Thursday, October 27. The 1-0 loss proved to be the end of Crew’s quest
for silverware.
“That’s the end of our season if you don’t score, so I was not trying to concentrate on it too much,” Cummings said following the 1-0 win. “Its playoff time and time to get some playoff goals!”
Cummings netted the ball in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, leading the Rapids to the locker room ecstatic. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kosuke-Kimura-c21353 at the goal line, who redirected the ball to Cummings in front of the goal mouth. The Jamaican striker
easily nestled the ball inside the netting to take the lead at the half-time.
The Fighting http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Canaries-c38723 came out strong in the second half but lacked in the final third which kept them shy of goals. It is the same Rapids that thrashed the Crew in last year’s conference final on penalty kicks at the same site.
It was a do-or-die situation for the Rapids who are defending the 2010 MLS Cup. The team entered this season’s play-offs as a wildcard holder, however, they managed to continue the quest in search of silverware.
The goal for Cummings could not have come at a better time. The forward scored only four goals in all competitions but eventually ended his scoring woes by getting a goal when it mattered the most.
“For us, it couldn’t have come at a better time,” Smith said. “There’s no doubt about it that goals change the mindset of people and we came in at halftime feeling that we got some reward for our work. Now the Crew had to go and make something happen, and
that’s not easy away from home.”
The Rapids now face Sporting Kansas City at the same Sporting Goods Park on October 30 in the first round of the two-legged conference semi-final. The return leg is scheduled for November 2 at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.
Head coach Gary Smith urged his men to continue the same good work in offence and defence to edge past the strong Wizards into the conference finals, where they might face either http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Philadelphia-Union-c40231.
