Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks trade Ryan Wheeler, Matt Reynolds - MLB News
Colorado Rockies traded their left-handed pitcher Matt Reynolds to Arizona Diamondbacks and acquired infielder Ryan Wheeler, just at the stroke of deadline of the submission of 40 man protection roster.
A player signed at the age of 18 must become a part of the 40 man roster during his first five years or he becomes eligible to be drafted by other ball clubs. A player signed at 19 should be added to a roster within four years. The deadline this year to
protect such players was Tuesday, November 20 at 9.59 pm MT.
Reynolds joined the Rockies in 2007 when he was drafted in the 20th round by the club. The 28-year-old made his Major League debut in August of 2010. During the 2012 season, Reynolds had a 3-1 winning record in 71 games, posting a 3.93 ERA. In
all, he represented the Rockies in a 165 games with a 5-3 winning record.
Matt will be leaving the Rockies, his only Major League ball club, with a heavy heart. "It's a sad moment to have to leave. But on the other hand, I have to look forward," he said.
The pitcher also said that he was unaware of the move before and hoped that other at the Colorado Rockies thought well of him. "I didn't know or hear about anything happening. Hopefully I left a good impression on the Rockies in my time there," Matt said.

Ryan Wheeler, meanwhile, was added to the roster by the Rockies. The 24-year-old, who was drafted by the Diamondbacks in 2009, during the fifth round, had a split season between Major and Minor Leagues.
Playing for the Triple-A Reno, the left-handed hitter posted some impressive numbers. In the 93 games that he played in, Ryan went long 15 times and batted in 90 runs while posting a .351 batting average. During the last season, he was named on the all-Pacific
Coast League Triple-A Team as well.
He was called to the D-backs duty in mid of July in 2012. Ryan had 109 at-bats in the 50 games during the regular season. His batting average was .239 with 10 RBI’s and a single home-run.
The trade between the two teams will certainly be useful. The D-backs have landed themselves a fairly reliable relief pitcher where as the Rockies will get a youngster with a lot of hitting ability. His playing chances initially will depend on how the Rockies’
team management plans things for him.
