Colorado Rockies’ Carlos Gonzalez injured in collision with Ian Stewart – MLB News
It looks as if the collision between Colorado Rockies’ left-fielder Carlos Gonzalez and third baseman Ian Stewart has created an injury scare for the team.
Gonzalez seems to have gotten the worse of it, as he was down after the collision and Stewart was still standing. Carlos is reported to have gotten a bruised right shin from the collision. However, a day after the collision is looks like Stewart has also
gotten injured from the collision as he may have damaged his right knee with tendon strain.
The team will have a sigh of relief as the collision and the subsequent injuries could have been much worse to both players. The Rockies understand the importance of having their players in peak physical condition as the regular season is right around the
corner and the team will be looking to be at full strength to take on some of the top tier teams in MLB.
Although Stewart is to miss a few days of the spring session due to his injury, he also understood how lucky he actually was as he collided with Gonzalez.
Stewart said, "I didn't feel it much during the game -- getting up the only thing I noticed was my hand was scraped up. When I got home, I don't know if it was the adrenaline wearing off from the first game, but it was sore last night."
Ian also commented on how lucky Gonzalez was not to get seriously injured as he said, "My knee was very close to hitting him right in the face. My ankle was underneath his feet when he slid. Once I realized I wasn't going to get to it, I kind of checked
up, thankfully."
The Rockies are looking at the possibility of both Gonzalez and Stewart missing a few games during the spring session so the players can recover from their injuries. The team is fortunate that this incident has happened during the spring workout session
and not the regular season.
The spring session allows for team to prepare their final rotations and put together their line-up for the regular season. While performance is key, it is not of the utmost importance as the games in the spring session are basically platforms for teams to
get some match playing practice in before the regular season starts.
Both Gonzalez and Stewart are quite fortunate that their injuries are not serious enough to keep them out of action for more than just a few days. The Rockies will be looking to players like Stewart and Gonzalez to perform during the regular season and hopefully
get to a post-season position in the end.
