Colorado Rockies’ Carlos Gonzalez listed day-to-day after being struck on hand – MLB news
Injury troubles for the Colorado Rockies continue as they have listed left fielder Carlos Gonzalez as a day to day player after he was struck on his hand by Arizona Diamondbacks’ pitcher Patrick Corbin.
This was a second injury related issue to Carlos in one week’s time who had a strained muscle near the left shoulder blade earlier. Scans have shown that Carlos has a strained ligament in his finger and has avoided any major damage.
It has been a tough time for the Rockies since they have had players like shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and Dexter Fowler on the disabled list. The two have now started to take part in rehab games for the Triple-A Colorado Springs and should be back in Major
League action soon. Try was particularly in great form with a .347 batting average and has been named as the National League’s shortstop for the All-Star game.
CarGo was not the only one injured during the game as starting pitcher Roy Oswalt had to leave the game in the second innings due to a strained hamstring.
The left fielder that there are injuries that are taking place in the team and it is a tough time which should soon go away.
“We lose Oswalt in the second inning, then I hurt myself on a swing. ... We're just going through a bad moment,” Gonzalez said. “Things will get better.”
CarGo has been firing all guns as he has a batting average of .304 with 24 home-runs, third most in the Major League this season. He has batted in 63 runs as well, making him an extremely important part of the Rockies’ offence.
Gonzalez was hit in the sixth innings and did not feel the immediate impact of that. However, when he got to the deck and swung a few times, he was having trouble. Pain shot through his finger when he fouled off a ball from reliever Josh Collmenter. He left
the game during an at-bat.
“On the last swing when Corbin struck me out with a slider, the finger kind of got stuck,” Gonzalez said. “Before my last at-bat I was swinging in the on-deck circle and it was hurting. Then I took a full swing, and it felt bad. That's why I came out of
the game.”
The Rockies now take the San Diego Padres on Monday and will evaluate the condition of Carlos before deciding on whether or not to play him in the game.
The Colorado ballclub will be desperately hoping for its main hitters to get back in full health and resume their duties. The team has gotten into a bit of a lean patch and lack of offensive production is one reason. Hopefully it can be resolved with the
return of the injured batters and continued health of Carlos Gonzalez for the rest of the season.
