Colorado Rockies’ Carlos Gonzalez making improvement after injury – MLB News
Colorado Rockies are in the news for all the good and bad reasons. The good news is that the team’s out-fielder Carlos Gonzalez is now recuperating and improving after having developed strained ligaments in the right wrist.
The ligaments were the direct result of swinging (a bit awkward in nature) against the Atlanta Braves in the game that was played on the July 21. Having suffered the injury, he was consigned to the disabled-list for 15 days.
But Gonzalez himself is optimistic and was hopeful that he will soon recover. "It's getting better every day. I want to get back out there as soon as I can. I don't want to take more than 15 days (on the disabled list)," said Gonzalez.
For him to return after being in the disabled-list, he has to make significant improvement and must show up on Friday in the game scheduled to be played against the Washington Nationals, a team that has had a good time on the field lately.
For the Rockies, the injury and the subsequent temporary departure of Gonzalez was not a very reassuring news. Having played 92 games this season, the out-fielder and major hitter of his team has scored 63 runs so far.
The Rockies out-fielder has had a history of injuries. Last year, having hurt his wrist in August, but somehow managed to play and performed brilliantly, keeping a wonderful average of .336 which won him and team laurels.
But his last year’s injury, a memory that cannot be forgotten, was refreshed this year on July 3 when he tried to catch a ball and in the epic attempt, ended up banging himself to the wall, that left him hurt. But he kept playing until the last swinging
attempt that took him to 15-days disabled list.
Having remained 342 at-bats, he has had 99 hits to his credit with 15 home-runs and 56 RBIs, having had an average of .289 and .358 OBP and .491 SLG. His career makes an equally good read as well.
He has appeared in 411 games so far with 1509 at-bats, he has scored 258 runs with 66 home-runs to his credit and having executed 228 RBIs with .297 average. Such a record, it goes without saying, makes him an important part of the team.
The Rockies are currently sitting at the 23rd rank with 51 wins to their credit and having lost 58 of the games they have played so far. The strained right wrist of Gonzalez at this crucial stage has done nothing but further cast a pall of worry
on the team.
