Colorado Rockies: Changing for the Better
The Colorado Rockies had quite a busy off-season period, as they managed to make many changes in their roster. Last year, the Rockies had a poor season as they won 73 games and managed to lose 89, finishing second last in the National League West Division.
The team just could not get it together during the 2011 regular season, as they finished a massive 21 games behind the high flying Arizona Diamondbacks. The off-season gave an ideal opportunity to the team to make some serious changes that will hopefully help them in the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. The Rockies are desperate for some success this year, as they are looking to prove to the rest of League that they are top tier team capable of beating some of the best.
Colorado made some significant changes to the team, some of which include the addition of Michael Cuddyer and Ramon Hernandez. Also added were Marco Scutaro and Casey Blake for this season. That was not all of the changes, as pitchers Jamie Moyer, Guillermo Moscoso and Jeremy Guthrie were brought on board during the offseason. Although these moves are not drastic, they do show that the Rockies are very serious about changing their fortunes this year.
Having the likes of top tier teams like the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres cannot be easy for the Rockies. All of these teams have tremendous line-ups capable of putting in some highly competitive performances. The Rockies definitely have their work cut out for them. They understand the fact that the team will have to come together and start playing some high quality baseball if they are to have sort of chance of possibly making it into the postseason.
Many critics are not happy with some of the current changes within the Rockies’ line-up. Complaints range from players being too old or not worth the players that they were traded for with other teams. No matter how you look at it, the Rockies need to make massive changes. The team will be looking to create the perfect balance between experience and youth to get some decent results this season.
As Spring Training is just around the corner, the Rockies will be looking to put in a good performance and get some of their younger players the opportunity to get some valuable playing time. The team will have the ideal chance to work on their line-up and rotations before the regular season. Also, it will become clear as to whether or not the changes made by the Rockies were worth the effort. The fans will be getting anxious to see their team take on some top teams from around the League during Spring Training.
Credit should be given to the Rockies for at least identifying issues and making a decent attempt towards fixing them during the off-season. The organisation understands the importance of bringing in players that have to capacity to stay healthy and put in good performance during the lengthy regular season. Increasing the pitching depth and strengthening the line-up is a wise move by the Rockies. This is a good balanced approach to improving things within the team.
Regardless of all the changes, it will be exciting to see how the Colorado Rockies perform during Spring Training to get a good idea of their chances of having a successful regular season.
