Colorado Rockies’ Dexter Fowler likely to generate trade interest - MLB News
It is high time in Major League Baseball to grab free agents and most teams have their wish lists ready.
B.J. Upton and Michael Bourn appear to be the hottest commodities in the centre field market but the name of Dexter Fowler, the Colorado Rockies’ centre fielder, is also been taken as a potential target for more than one team.
Fowler has been a star performer for the Colorado Rockies and as come of an age in 2012 season. The player recently acknowledged that he now holds the role of a senior statesman in the Rockies’ setup and youngster look up to him for advice.
The Rockies, however, do not appear to be in the mood to let Fowler go, who hit with an even .300 batting average in 2012 season. The 26-year-old could possibly be traded in case the Colorado ball club can get a good starting pitcher. The Atlanta Braves,
Philadelphia Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays have all shown interest in Fowler.
Dexter, who drew a $2.35 million salary in 2012, is headed to arbitration. It is quite likely that the Rockies will offer him a multi-year deal to keep him on board. The player himself has shown the desire to continue with the Rockies.
A lot will obviously depend on the final deals that are signed by Upton and Bourn. In case the aforementioned teams are unable to finalise deals with their desired free agents, Dexter will certainly be a person of an increased interest.
The three ball clubs also look good to get a trade for Fowler because of having good trade options in the pitching unit. Some baseball circles are suggesting that Dexter could be a good pick for the New York Mets as well and will likely perform better then
Andres Torres.
The Colorado Rockies themselves have a wish list of players to add to their outfit. Names such as Kevin Correia and Jeff Francis are rumoured as pitchers the Rockies may want. Jeff has some success in the past as a pitcher where as Kevin has had success
against the Rockies representing the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Francisco Giants. Both players have decent career numbers as pitchers in Major League Baseball.
It will be interesting to see how the Colorado Rockies deal with the situation if they get any serious trade offers for Dexter Fowler. The centre fielder has a lot of potential, with good hitting skills and a decent defense as he enjoys the respect of fellow
team members.
Dexter is growing into the go-to man for the many youngsters in the Colorado team. He could be in for a long haul for the Rockies unless the ball club gets an offer that is too tempting to refuse.
