Colorado Rockies’ Ian Stewart to leave the field for a week due to injury – MLB News
The Colorado Rockies were slightly worried in their recent 8-7 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, as Ian Stewart seems to have injured his left knee during a collision with Carlos Gonzalez. It seems that Stewart will miss the next few days to have his
injury evaluated properly.
The collision occurred when Ian Stewart from third base, Carlos Gonzalez from left field and Troy Tulowitzki from shortstop position hurled for a pop fly to short left field. Gonzalez and Stewart were trapped in such a way that Stewart’s foot caught under
sliding Gonzalez’s leg. Troy was fortunate to avoid any injury.
"I didn't feel it much during the game -- getting up the only thing I noticed was my hand was scraped up," Stewart said. "When I got home, I don't know if it was the adrenaline wearing off from the first game, but it was sore last night."
Rockies’ manager Jim Tracy seemed disappointed as Stewart is a key player for the Rockies and his injury has forced him to miss the next few days of the spring session. The manager knows full well that for the team to have a successful regular season, the
squad will be looking to perform during the spring workout.
A relieved Tracy said, "I'm just glad that it's a week, and not two months or the season."
Stewart will also be a little disappointed as he was looking to put in a good performance for the team during the workout sessions. He is a tremendous player that can make a big difference for the Rockies during the regular season. Stewart will be looking
to recover from his injury as soon as possible and return to the field for the team.
The Rockies are loaded with talented players, but the spring session provides the opportunity for teams to finalise their rotations and line-ups for the upcoming regular season. Any injury during this session can be a cause for serious concern for the line-up.
The entire chemistry of a team can often be shaken right before the regular season due to player injuries.
Colorado will be looking to put in a good performance during the workout session and get ready for a grueling regular season. The team will look to dominate early in the regular season for any hope getting in to a possible post-season position.
Only time will tell if the injury to Stewart will have any type of impact on the team and the other players. The Rockies will be happy to learn that he is due to return in a few days and only then can his status be evaluated.
