Colorado Rockies’ Juan Nicasio overwhelms Milwaukee Brewers to grab 4-0 shutout – MLB Recap
Colorado Rockies’ Juan Nicasio tossed unplayable sinkers to take his club into 4-0 shutout over the Milwaukee Brewers in the second outing of the four game series at the Coors Field in Denver on Friday, July 15.
The 24-year-old Rookie hurler threw scorching sinkers to outclass his rivals and snatched his fourth win of the season. He allowed only four no-score hits and struck-out four batters over his seven innings. His win improved his record to 4-2 with 4.24 ERA
in nine starts.
Reliever Matt Lindstrom and closer Huston Street both remained scoreless over their one-inning spells. Lindstrom packed the Brewers batting line-up on just ten pitches in the seventh inning while Street did the same but on twelve pitches.
The Brewers’ starter Chris Narveson, on the other hand struggled throughout the game. The 29-year-old lefty allowed three runs on five hits and walked three batters over six innings. He received his sixth loss, which reduced his record to 6-6 with a 4.74
ERA after 19 starts.
"It was unfortunate that it kind of kicked away," Narveson said. "If it's another runner on there, I don't think they try, but Fowler's pretty fast. It ended up kind of shooting us in the foot a little bit."
It was a real blow for the Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke who was sure receiving perfect game from his starter, as Narveson before losing this game was enjoying three consecutive wins. His reliever Takashi Saito also remained helpless to hold the Rockies
from making a run in his only inning that he tossed after Narveson left the mound. However, closer John Axford did not allow any run in the ninth inning but it did not prove helpful for the Brewers’ struggling batting line-up.
"Any time you don't hit and you get shut out, you're not going to be happy with the approaches [at the plate]," Roenicke said. "It goes hand in hand. It is nice to see if you square up 10 balls and they are caught and the guy shuts you out, but that wasn't
the case."
The Rockies scored one run each in the first, third, fifth and seventh inning to cement their 45th win of the season. Troy Tulowitzki and Todd Helton each scored two runs in front of the large crowd in attendance under cloudy conditions.
