Colorado Rockies’ Michael Cuddyer, Todd Helton looking confident for regular season
The senior pros for the Colorado Rockies feel confident after getting into the groove during Spring Training which is currently underway. These sentiments were echoed by senior statesmen Michael Cuddyer and Todd Helton on Friday, March 15.
Michael Cuddyer has been one of the players rumoured to be on the trade block for the most part of the off season along with Dexter Fowler. There was much talk of trading one or both of the players in order to get some strong arms for the opening rotation.
Michael Cuddyer is not too bothered about the chatter and he at heart is a part of the Rockies organisation. He has no intentions of moving away at this point in time.
He said, "I'm a Colorado Rockie. I'm excited. I wouldn't want anything different."
He went 3-for-3 against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night and seems to be in good form heading towards the regular Major League season.
Michael sees a serious amount of talent in the Rockies’ ranks and is quite pleased with the way things have fared in the last few weeks during Spring Training. He believes that there is tons of talent in the current squad and it is just execution that needs
to be properly done to achieve success.
"We've got a good direction that we established four or five weeks ago, and we've stuck to that through games. There's tons of talent. I don't think anybody in baseball can question our talent. But it's executing, and that's what we are trying to hone in
on this spring."
Rockies had a 64-98 losing record in 2012 which is the worst in the team’s relatively brief history. Now under a new manager in the form of Walt Weiss and most of the new coaching staff, the Rockies are certainly looking to put that behind them and start
a new chapter in the 2013 season.
Meanwhile, old timer Todd Helton seems to be feeling good about his performance so far. The 39-year-old is prone to back problems but he seems to be feeling well at this point in time.
He must also be feeling better after blasting a two-run home-run on Friday against the Reds’ Johnny Cueto to right-centre field.
"Whenever you're working on something and you're able to execute it in games, you've got to be happy about it," Helton said. "Even if you do it in BP [batting practice], you're happy with it. To do it off of live pitching is even better.”
One hopes that the offence will continue to build the way it is at the moment when the regular season starts. It is important that the Rockies perform up to their potential and once again get back into the contention for the post season.
