Colorado Rockies Michael Cuddyer believes that Walt Weiss is a no non-sense manager- MLB News
Michael Cuddyer is an experienced Major League player whose has played in the Major League for 12 seasons, 11 of them with the Minnesota Twins.
Recently in an interview with the mlb.com, he expressed his views on the newly hired manager of the Colorado ball club Walt Weiss.
Colorado Rockies hired Walt Weiss as their manager after Jim Tracey submitted his resignation. The appointment came after a fair amount of speculation as to who will get the spot and long discussion by the management of the Rockies.
There were a number of candidate including internal candidates Tom Runnells and Jason Giambi as well as Matt Williams. Eventually the decision was made in favour of the ex- Rockies batter Walt Weiss. Walt had been associated with the Rockies form 1994 to
1998 and prior to taking the Rockies’s managerial assignment, was a coach for the Regis Jesuit High School.
Personally Michael is unaware of how Walt operates but is aware of the reputation his new manager carries. He knows that the new manager is a passionate about the game and was a good player during his playing days.
"I don't know him personally. I know his reputation. I know he's a baseball guy first and foremost. He played the game the right way when he played. He was a gamer. Those are things I take pride in," Michael said.
Cuddyer was not much off with his opinions. Weiss had a Major League career that spanned over 14 seasons. During the period, the shortstop played for four teams and was a part of the Rockies in five of those seasons.
He posted decent career returns with a .258 batting average and a .351 career on-base percentage. Walt was a consistent performer and one of the crowd favourites at the Coors Field during his playing days for the Rockies.
Michael believes that he will get along with the new manager really well. He thinks that the personality of the manager is the trend setter for any team and the Walt looks like a professional guy who is laid back and has a no non-sense approach to his work.
He hopes that the team’s players can instill those qualities in themselves. Should that be the case, the Rockies should be on the right track.
"I think we're going to get along real well. Every team takes the personality of its manager, and he seems laid-back, no-nonsense, gets after it. If we take on those characteristics, we'll be fine."
The Colorado Rockies had their worst run of the franchise history in 2012 and had a 64-98 losing record. Walt Weiss has been entrusted with a difficult responsibility of managing a young team struggling with injuries to its main players.
Contributions from players such as Michael can be instrumental in helping the new manager as well as in the resurgence of the Colorado ball club.
