Colorado Rockies’ Michael Cuddyer takes hitting streak to 24 games – MLB news
Colorado Rockies' Michael Cuddyer is in the form of a lifetime with the bat as the right fielder is currently hitting at an amazing .351 batting average for the 2013 season with a 24 game winning streak. He achieved the feat going 3-for-4 against the New
York Mets in a 3-2 defeat.
This is not only the longest streak for the 34-year-old hitter in the Majors but also the longest in the brief history of the Rockies' franchise that became a part of the Major League in 1993. It is also the longest hitting streaks in all of the Major League
Baseball in 2013.
Walt Weiss, the manager of the Rockies, was happy to see Michael get the success. He said that the veteran knows his game well and is smart hitter who can understand the pitchers.
“He's a very smart hitter,” Weiss said. “He understands [pitch] sequences, he's very good at thinking along with the pitcher and he might sit on a pitch. So he's got a good idea when he steps in the box.”
Walt said that he has a simple approach and that is to stay in the zone and go for it when the opportunity provides itself. The approach helps in being successful.
“It's a pretty simple approach at the plate. He's the type of hitter that gets his bat on plane early and stays in the zone, and those guys give themselves a pretty good chance to succeed,” the manager said.
Michael's form has been great for the Rockies who have to deal with the temporary loss of shortstop Troy Tulowitzki who was performing quite well before he got injured. Cuddyer along with Carlos Gonzalez has been taking the team forward.
Michael took an unselfish approach to the whole affair and said that although the records matter, he will be willing to trade them for a win any given day.
“Anytime you can put your name in any type of record book, it is a good thing,” said Cuddyer. “I would trade it for a win, though.”
A continuation of the current form that Cuddyer maintains can help the Colorado Rockies in sealing a post-season berth. This should be a big turnaround from the franchise's worst performance last year.
