Colorado Rockies Michael Cuddyer talks about family, holiday plans- MLB News
Michael Cuddyer of the Colorado Rockies has been associated with baseball professionally for the last 16 years. He has been playing in the Majors for 12 and he has learnt the value of spending time with the family.
Last year the holidays were very busy for the Cuddyers as they had welcomed their twin daughters earlier in that month. They were exhausted and could not catch up with their sleep as the twins were waking them up every three hours during the night.
Now that the twins are sleeping through the night, the parents are also able to have a good sleep. Michael is pleased that staying up at night will not be the case this holiday season.
"We're getting a lot more sleep than we did this time last year, that's for sure," he said.
The 33-year-old is aware of the importance of managing work and family at the same time and given his long playing career, it is something he is able to do.
Holidays most certainly are important to professional ball players who have to be away from their families for a significant amount of time during the playing season.
Michael believes that he has to spend quality time with the family during the holidays. It may affect his workouts a bit but that’s not a big deal for him.
"You learn how to manage the holidays and the workouts," Michael said. "You know it's getting near the time for Spring Training, time to get ready to go. At the same time, it is the holidays and you're supposed to have a good time with the family."
Cuddyer says that one may feel bad not training enough at this time but this time is supposed to be for the family and it should be thoroughly enjoyed with them.
He also unveiled his guilty pleasure, sweets! He says that he has any of them and all of them, without any discrimination.
"My guilty pleasures are the sweets, no doubt about it -- the holiday log roll, cakes and pies," Cuddyer said.
Michael loves to have a dinner at his in-laws since his mother-in-law, who is originally from Portugal, has loads of desserts made when she invites them over to her place.
"My wife's mother is Portuguese, so if I go there for a regular dinner, they have something like 25 deserts," he said.
It’s great to see that Michael Cuddyer understands the value of time with family and utilises it to the fullest of extent. In current day and age, athletes in particular suffer a lot due to the long travel schedules and are unable to be around for their
loved ones often enough. The best way to go about it is to enjoy each and every moment that one gets with their family.
