Colorado Rockies Michael Cuddyer unaware of trade possibilities, prepares for 2013 season- MLB News
The Colorado Rockies woes in pitching during the 2012 season are well documented. They have struggled due to injuries and a young and inexperienced pitching unit. They have recently made some moves to strengthening the weak link and still are in pursuit
of some experienced arms.
They have recently added Jeff Francis for their starting rotation and acquired Wilton Lopez from the Houston Astros in a trade as the Colorado ball club wanted a reliable closer added to their ranks. It will be not be surprising if they will to add more
pitchers to the bullpen as well.
The team is also said to be interested in Freddy Garcia, a pitcher that is being seeked by Minnesota Twins as well as the Cincinnati Reds. They are on the hunt for starting pitchers at the moment.
The Rockies are open to free agency as well as trade. The two most tradable players that the Rockies have are Michael Cuddyer and Dexter Fowler. The club has downplayed that it wants to trade either of the two but also have dropped hints that if they get
a big value player in trade, they may consider.
Dexter is a young centre fielder who has taken up the role of a senior statesman amongst the Rockies. The 26-year-old has been playing for the Colorado ball club for five seasons now and commends respect due to his good and consistent performance.
He had an even batting average of .300 in 2012 and an on-base percentage of .389. He boosts good career numbers with a .271 batting average and a .364 on-base percentage.
Michael Cuddyer on the other hand is an extremely experienced batter. He has played in the Majors for 12 seasons and except for the 2012 season; he featured for the Minnesota Twins in all of the other ones. He has a career batting average of .271 and a .341
on-base percentage.
The numbers in 2012 were not too bad either. He played in a total of 101 games and had to sit out for a total of 55 games, 44 of them at the end of the season due to an injury to his right oblique. Michael still posted a .260 batting average and a .317 on-base
percentage.
He is a strong hitter and can drive in runs and also has the ability to hit the long ball. When he was recently inquired about the possibility of him being traded by the Rockies, he said that he had heard rumours but nothing officially had been discussed
with him.
He said that he had read about it as well but nothing has yet been discussed. Michael is looking forward to the next season at the moment.
"We haven't talked about the possibility of trades. I've seen the rumors, and like everybody else, I've read the articles, but as far as direct talks with me, nothing has transpired. My focus is to get ready and try to make us a better team than we were
last year."
It would be an ideal situation if the Rockies hold on to players such as Michael Cuddyer and Dexter Fowler as they will be crucial to the team in 2013 for offensive production. Unless they can find a trade in terms of pitchers that is too hard to pass, the
duo is likely to remain in Colorado.
