Colorado Rockies add free agent Casey Blake to their roster – MLB News
The Colorado Rockies have added veteran third baseman, Casey Blake to their 40-man roster for a one-year deal worth $2 million including $1 million in performance bonuses. The Rockies general manager, Dan O’Dowd was the most proud person on Tuesday after
his negotiations with Casey’s agent went perfect.
Later, he announced in a news conference showing full support and confidence in Blake. O’Dowd said, “We think we added a culture-changer, just like we added in Michael Cuddyer.”
Cuddyer is another talented MLB player, who recently has also signed with the Rockies for next couple of seasons. Casey Blake, a 38 year-old with 12 years of vast MLB experience, was certainly was persuaded by many as soon as the 2011 season ended with the
win of St. Louis Cardinals.
The New York Yankees along with Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles of Anaheim, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Milwaukee Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto
Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays were the teams who had offered Casey and his agent for a potential contract but they both somehow could not make any commitment with all above franchisees.
Primarily, Casey Blake and his agent were looking for a bigger contract but after getting a lame response from all these teams for a lengthy deal, both understood that no team is going to give them a contract they are expecting and wasting more time would
be further lethal.
With less time for free agents to sign a deal, Casey eventually decided to sign a short one-year tenure that has ensured him a handsome amount of money for next season as well. Meanwhile, his arrival in the Rockies roster certainly will enhance their wining
chances next season.
Playing at third-base, Casey’s stats might improve further for more excellence. According to last season’s performance, he averaged at .252 along with four home-runs, 26 RBIs, and .342 OBP while his career average of .264 along with total 167 homers, 616
RBIs and .336 OBP also makes him a tremendous player at third-base.
