Colorado Rockies amongst teams eyeing outfielder Carlos Beltran -MLB Update
The Colorado Rockies have become the front runners in the race to acquire one of two outfielders which are the hottest in their position in the free agent market at the moment in order to fill the gap on their roster for the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball
(MLB) regular season.
On the table are outfielder, Carlos Beltran, and Michael Cuddyer, of the Minnesota Twins.
One thing for certain is that the Rockies might have a tough time securing Cuddyer since the Twins are in the process of re-signing the player to a three-year contract worth an estimated $25 million, meaning that Colorado would have to top that offer with
more salary annually and potentially longer in terms of duration for the player to take their deal into consideration.
If the Colorado Rockies are unsuccessful in their attempt to grab Cuddyer if he decided to return with Minnesota Twins for the next few seasons or possibly another team in the major league because it is widely known that outfielders have become suddenly
in demand over the few days as the free agent market is quickly drying up, the team will have to offer Beltran at least a two-year deal for him to sign according to sources.
After signing Beltran, Colorado is most probably expected to add him in between their line-up of Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez to make their game play most effective and of a perfect counter balance to anything they might face next season.
Carlos Beltran is a 34-year-old veteran player with 13 years of experience under his belt, making him one of the top candidates a team would want on their roster. He started his professional baseball career with the Kansas City Royals followed by 90 games
with the Houston Astros before moving on to the New York Mets for seven straight.
Last season was his first and maybe last with the San Francisco Giants who have not as of yet given him any options on returning for the next season.
It will be exciting to see where Carlos Beltran will be headed and how he will adjust to the new team.
