Colorado Rockies beat Los Angeles Dodgers 7-3 despite shaky opening pitching – MLB Update
The Colorado Rockies had another productive day in the field as they downed Los Angeles Dodgers 7-3 on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Dodger Stadium. The Rockies currently have a 17-11 winning record in the 2013 season.
It was not a good game for either of the two starting pitchers as Juan Nicasio was unable to complete five innings whereas Josh Beckett picked up his fourth defeat of the season without a victory so far. The win was recorded by relief pitcher Josh Outman
who did not allow any damage to the scoreboard for the Rockies.
The signs are good for the Colorado ballclub as Carlos Gonzalez has apparently gained some of his lost form back. He managed two doubles and two walks on Wednesday to help his team. He has been 6-for-11 since coming to Los Angeles and seems to have broken
out of the slump that saw him post a torrid 4-for-35 performance.
The scoring was powered by Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez who both posted two-run doubles during the game.
Carlos was himself pleased and believed that all he needed to do was to keep his calm and the results were bound to come.
"The past couple of series I had so many chances to change the game, and it didn't happen, but I always try to keep myself positive," Gonzalez said. "All I've got to do is control my emotions and believe in myself."
Michael Cuddyer feels that the team has been up and down a little bit and they have to be able to move over when the going is tough.
"We can turn the page," said Cuddyer. "You have to be able to turn the page, because you're going to have bad games. You can't let bad games linger. You understand that. You respect that loss, then you move on."
Walt Weiss, the manager for the Rockies was pleased by the display which saw the present National League West leaders even their current road record to 8-8. Walt felt that the team could do really well even if the pitching unit lagged behind a little bit
because of the strong batting line-up the ballclub possess.
"That's the beauty of having an offense like we have," Weiss said. "We can outslug some things. You can't do that all the time, but we have the capability."
The victory came against over 32000 fans at Dodger Stadium though it is unlikely that the Rockies will be feeling bad leaving the home fans disappointed. They will surely like to build more on the performance and try to be consistent with their performance.
A good road show can lead them to greater heights as they already have been excellent at home.
