Colorado Rockies beat San Diego Padres 8-7 in 10th innings at Coors Field – MLB News
Colorado Rockies beat the San Diego Padres 8-7 after a tense game which was decided in the 10th innings on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the Coors Field.
Although it was Rex Brothers who secured the win for the Rockies, it was Juan Nicasio who really made the life hard for the Padres. He threw five three up three down innings before finally giving up two runs
in the top of the sixth innings and surrendering four hits and giving up a walk.
Walt Weiss, the Rockies’ manager, was all praise for Juan, who in his opinion pitched exceptionally well. He was pleased that the pitcher was able to show control with all kinds of pitches.
"It's as good as I've seen Juan this year. He was at the bottom of the zone, his good fastball, and he was up to I think 95 or 96," said Weiss. "Threw some good changeups today and then the slider, all three
were working for him. Just that sixth inning they got some balls up, it looked like.”
The pitcher himself was not thinking about getting a no-hitter and was concentrating at the job at hand during the game.
"I was not thinking about a no-hitter; I was just focused on a good pitch," said Nicasio, who then gave up another a run on three straight singles.”
The Padres were trailing by four runs at one point before a rally of runs allowed them to take the lead. Troy Tulowitzki got things underway with a two-run home-run before the home team added two more runs in
the third innings.
Nick Hundley got the Padres underway with a solo home-run in the sixth. Another run was scored in the sixth by the visitors.
Three more runs were added by the San Diego ballclub courtesy to two ore home-runs. Padres added two more runs in the seventh as they took a strong 7-4 lead and appeared to be in control.
Padres’ manager felt that anything could happen at the Coors Field which is about a mile high and the fly balls travel farther.
"In this park," Black said, "you never know."
The Rockies were able to find their way back into the game in the bottom of the ninth innings when they were able to score three runs that were needed for tying the game.
It was eventually Dexter Fowler who got an RBI single at the bottom of the tenth innings to book a win for the Colorado Rockies.
It was a good win who will continue their home stand against the Washington Nationals. They will certainly be looking to move forward as they are just a game and a half away from the top- spot in the National
League West.
