Colorado Rockies beat San Francisco Giants 5-4 – MLB Update
Colorado Rockies beat San Francisco Giants 5-4 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California on Tuesday, May 15 in the second game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Giants had the first laugh as Brandon Belt hit sacrifice fly to centre to give them 1-0 lead. The Rockies bounced back bravely in the fourth inning, thanks to Troy Tulowitzki who singled to left to level score 1-1.
Michael Cuddyer and Carlos Gonzalez and Jordan Pacheco also drove in a run as the Rockies took complete advantage of their rivals’ unforced errors. Marco Scutaro hit a home run against closer Santiago Casilla in the ninth as Colorado won the game in a thrilling
fashion.
"It took some character, which I think this team has a lot of," Manager Jim Tracy said. "Now, we didn't necessarily have to do in the fashion that we did."
"Losing is no fun," Scutaro said. "It gets tired real quickly. Hopefully this will spark us."
"It's not a step forward or backward. It's just another game," Giants’ starting pitcher Tim Lincecum said in a post game interview with a reporter. "I put myself in tough situations and I couldn't put a stop to it."
The Rockies will be very pleased with the way they bounced back in the finale after suffering a demoralising defeat in the opener. Showing great determination, fighting spirit and mental strength, Colorado outplayed their opponents in finer details of the
game.
With their win over the Giants on Tuesday evening, the Rockies also improved their record to 14-21. So far, they have not been able to deliver the good on regular basis and it will be interesting to see if they can change the course of their destiny with
a strong performance in their next series against Seattle Mariners.
San Francisco, on the other hand, will be very disappointed with the outcome of the game. With little bit more luck on their side, they could have swept the Rockies. Nonetheless, they will be looking to put things back on track in their next game against
Oakland Athletics.
