Colorado Rockies beaten by Philadelphia Phillies 2-3 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies lost to Philadelphia Phillies 2-3 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, September 7 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
"That's kind of the way it goes, I guess we have to keep at them. If I had my way, we never would've been under .500," manager Charlie Manuel said on his team’s performance.
Rockies’ poor run into second half of the Major League Baseball season continued as they suffered a third consecutive defeat out of five games on Friday.
"I knew I had to put it in play, It's exciting. It's nice to get a big hit and help the team win," Nate Schierholtz said.
Losing a series from Atlanta Braves 3-1, the Rockies again did not play against the Phillies and lost.
Phillies’ on the other hand, were coming with a series win over the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 and when they approached their home field, they once again showed their valour which eventually provided them a great victory.
Philadelphia's pitchers were the main hurdle for the Rockies. They never let the Rockies' batters play their natural game and proved too good.
Cliff Lee pitched 6.1 innings and received eight hits and only two runs. He retired seven Phillies’ hitters and remained calm on the mound.
"Hopefully we can continue and finish this year out strong," Lee said on his outing and team’s performance.
Relief pitcher Josh Lindblom also did well on the mound as he pitched 0.1 innings and struck-out one hitter on his 3.47 ERA.
On the other hand, starter Jeff Francis was the only player in the Rockies' roster who played well while rest of the roster disappointed.
"Regardless of their season, that's a pretty good team over there," Francis said with confidence.
"Jeff Francis did an unbelievable job for us tonight," Rockies' manager Jim Tracy said on his team’s performance and his starter’s contribution.
Carlos Torres pitched one inning and received two runs and two hits. He did spoil the game for the Rockies as his ERA rose to 4.19.
