Colorado Rockies defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 at Coors Field to bag series – MLB news
Colorado Rockies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 at the Coors Field on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 to leave the top spot in the National League in a three-way tie. Rockies, D-backs and San Francisco Giants currently all have a 26-21 win-loss record.
The game was characterised by the continued good form of Carlos Gonzalez and some seriously good pitching by Jorge De La Rosa.
Carlos, better known by his nickname ‘CarGo’ got the ball rolling for the home team as he smashed a solo home-run in the bottom of the first innings. Nolan Arenado got an RBI double to add another run on the scoreboard.
A triple by CarGo saw DJ LeMahieu score. He later himself scored on a wild pitch by Trevor Cahill, the opening pitcher for the D-backs.
Carlos said that the plan that the team is currently focusing on is to beat the stronger teams. He felt that doing that is creating a lot of motivation in the team.
“That's the whole plan, beat the teams that are ahead of us,” said Gonzalez. “It's a good feeling, and it creates a lot of motivation for us.”
Rockies’ manager Walt Weiss said that the season has its ups and downs and there is a need of consistency on the part of the team.
“You hope wins roll over, but that's not necessarily the case in this game,” Weiss said. “There are ebbs and flows to the season. We've just got to keep playing well, regardless of where we're at.”
There was plenty of praise for Jorge De La Rosa who is making a comeback after a season and a half. He had a Tommy John Surgery at his left elbow. He recorded an impressive sixth win and now has a win-loss record of 6-3.
Jorge found a fan in the opposing ranks as Cody Ross, the D-backs left fielder was all praise for De La Rosa. He said that when the pitcher gets it right, he is unhittable.
“I've seen him like that before,” Ross said. “His command, when he's got it, he's about unhittable. And today he had it.”
Walt Weiss was impressed by the pitching show by Jorge despite of being away from the game for so long.
“To be honest with you, where he's at right now after missing that much time is real impressive,” Weiss said.
Jorge was himself happy with the way things are moving though he felt that he can add some more power to his arm. He is overall satisfied by his performance.
It is a great win for the Rockies who nailed it against one of the toughest sides in the National League. They have certainly made a strong comeback this season and may spring a few surprises as the season progresses.
