Colorado Rockies defeat Cincinnati Reds 7-3 – MLB Spring Training
Colorado Rockies defeated Cincinnati Reds 7-3 at the Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Pima County, Arizona on Sunday, March 25 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Rockies’ hitter Todd Helton hit his first two home runs of the season to help his side take the lead. Helton is the leading run scorer for the Rockies and he will be looking to continue his sensational hitting during the regular season as well.
"To take all you're working on in the cage and have it translate into success in the game, it feels good," said Helton in a post game interview with a reporter. "But I need to save them; they are so few and far between now."
"(Saturday) I never really got loose -- it's just the way it goes," he said. "But today, the back felt good and I felt like I had a little whip in the bat."
The Rockies looked to attack their rivals right from the start of the game. Showing depth in their hitting and pitching lineups, the Rockies established complete control over the contest. With their win over the Reds, they have now improved their spring win-loss record to 12-10.
Colorado has never won the World Series title. Manager Jim Tracy and his men trained extremely hard in their pre-spring training sessions to work out a way to make it to the World Series finals this season. While winning the World Series title may not be easy for the Rockies, they are certainly looking on course to reach the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if the Rockies can defy the odds and cheer up their fans by making it to the post season in 2012.
The Reds, on the other hand, have no one to blame except for themselves. Making too many unforced errors in the game, they let their opponents dictate terms, which proved to be the main difference between the two teams. Considering their 10-14 spring record, the Reds have a lot to improve on to achieve better results in the regular season.
