Colorado Rockies defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 7-5 – MLB Update
The Colorado Rockies put in a tremendous effort as they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-5 at Coors Field, Denver on Wednesday, April 6.
The Rockies defeated the Dodgers in the second consecutive match, increasing the pressure on the latter which already seemed to be in trouble. This has made it possible for a half-game lead for the Rockies over the San Diego Padres.
It was Jason Hammel who was the first pitcher for the Rockies for the game. He struck-out Rafael Furcal which was followed by Casey Blake getting hit by a pitch. When Andre Ethier tried to ground into double, first to short-stop, Blake got out at second
leaving the Dodgers without any score in the first inning. Colorado, on the other hand, came down hard when Chad Billingsley started pitching for Los Angeles. It was Carlos Gonzalez that created a good start by taking Billingsley to task, as he doubled to
right where Seth Smith scored.
Jose Lopez had a lot to make by the punishable mistakes of Billingsley, he singled to left where Gonzalez scored and Todd Helton followed to second. When the inning had come to end, Colorado had scored two runs out of three hits they had. James Loney of
the Dodgers scored the team’s first run after he homered to right in the second inning. Colorado was still maintaining a lead as the second inning came to end.
The third inning brought tremendous opportunity for Los Angeles to take advantage of, as Rod Barajas targeted Jason Hammel, pitching for Colorado. He homered to left, scoring the second run for the Dodgers, only to be followed by Blake who struck hard to
triple to deep right centre, as Furcal completed the score. Ethier went for the third hit of the inning, leading to the fourth run for the Dodgers, as he singled to right where Blake scored.
By the time the Dodgers had established their lead, Billingsley was taken on by Colorado. First it was Todd Helton who struck the ball, allowing Gonzalez and Tulowitzki the opportunity to score. This was the first home-run of the season for Helton. This
hit alone emboldened the position of Colorado in the match, giving them a good 5-4 lead in the fourth inning.
Tulowitzki, at the bottom of the fourth inning, targeted Blake Hawksworth who was pitching for the Dodgers. He homered to left where Gonzalez scored, giving an impressive 7-4 lead to Colorado. Hammel and Franklin Morales then raged like a violent storm on
the Dodgers that could not face their balls with the requisite degree of composure and dexterity.
Only in the eighth inning did the Dodgers have an opportunity to come back in the game as Matt Lindstrom came to pitch. Juan Uribe of Colorado saw a golden chance, as he did try to hit hard but ended up grounding it out to second where Matt Kemp scored.
The lead for the Colorado was minimised to 7-5, but then things went Colorado’s way as they took the win in the end.
