Colorado Rockies defeat Washington Nationals 4-3 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies defeated the Washington Nationals 4-3 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, July 8 at Nationals Park.
With this win, the Rockies have also won the series 2-1.
The Nationals’ played under pressure from start of the game and lost in the end. Their relief pitcher Sean Burnett was smashed for two runs along with a homer.
Giving two earned runs as well, Burnett’s spell proved devastating for the Nationals’ as they lost with bitter humiliation.
Later in the game, several reporters asked couple of questions from Burnett as he replied, "Unfortunately, you can't get the ball and go out there tomorrow, It's going to be nice to have these four days off and relax with the family, but you would like to go out on a better note than that."
However, Colorado team manager Jim Tracy looked comfortable with the media as he commented on his team’s great win and said, "I'm really proud of the way the club played in this series. To win this series, to win the season series against them, you look for little incremental things in relation to where we're at and where we're trying to get to, and you feel awfully good about the way we gutted that thing out today."
Rockies' starting rotation was exceptional against the Nationals. They played intelligently and earned a balanced victory.
Jeremy Guthrie pitched six innings and received two runs on six hits along with a homer. He gave only two earned runs and struck-out three Nationals’ hitters as his ERA remained at 6.05.
Relief pitcher Matt Belisle also did well in his one inning spell as he received one run on two hits while his ERA stayed consistent at 1.93.
On the other hand, the Nationals' pitchers were hammered with full force by the Rockies' batters and never let their opponents to take control of the game.
Jordan Zimmermann was the only pitcher in the Nationals’ roster who pitched well but despite his good outing, the Washington side still could not manage to find ways to tackle the Rockies' offence as they proved unplayable for them.
