Colorado Rockies defeated by Cincinnati Reds 7-9 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies defeated by the Cincinnati Reds 7-9 in the second game of their three-match regular season encounter on Saturday, July 28 at Coors Field in Denver.
Rockies’ played the entire game under pressure and never showed any fighting spirit against the Reds who gave them a hard time in the second game as well.
Rockies’ experienced players once again let down with their performances and showed an inflexibility in all areas of play which proved disastrous in the end as they lost with a narrow margin.
Especially Rockies pitching rotation was hammered with big hits. They combined gave nine runs and literally handed over the game to their opponents with bitter humiliation.
“[We] scored seven, got [13] hits, didn't commit any errors, played good defense, But we gave up too many runs. It's really difficult to be successful when you're removing a starting pitcher before 15 outs have been recorded," Rockies' manager Jim Tracy said.
Christian Friedrich started the game for the Rockies and played poorly. He allowed seven runs and six hits while he also gave seven earned runs. In his 4.1 innings’ spell, he was also smashed with three homers and struck-out only one Reds’ player on an increasing 6.17 ERA.
“It's always something different, Tonight, I felt I was lacking control and firing it in the zone for most part. But I can't just go up there trying to fill up the zone, throwing pitches up in the zone, whether they're strikes," Friedrich said.
He added, "It's just a matter of being consistent and keeping balls down, If you leave them up, they'll leave the yard."
Josh Roenicke also allowed one run and two hits on his 2.48 ERA.
Closer Matt Belisle also gave one run in his single inning play as his ERA remained at 2.38.
Though the overall game was played at a high pace but the Rockies, who were hammered with big hits by the Reds’ top offence eventually gave up in the last inning with low energy and simply could not save the game.
