Colorado Rockies dominated by Atlanta Braves 1-6 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies lost to the Atlanta Braves 1-6 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, September 3 at Turner Field in Atlanta.
"It was all limits to innings, It was basically the number that Strasburg is facing right now, 160 to 170, because they both were coming off the Tommy John surgery. Where do we want that 160 to 170 to end? Do we want it to end in October or do we want it to end in August?" Gonzalez said of his team’s performance.
Braves played better than the Rockies and won the game in style. They never let the Rockies dominate and eventually outclassed them on the field. Rockies entire pitching rotation played poorly and lost the game for their team.
Tyler Chatwood was the main player in the Rockies roster but he disappointed his team with his lame pitching.
He received six runs and three hits along with five earned runs. He retired only two batters and could not maintain his ERA at 5.53.
Though later, the Rockies’ pitchers held the Braves, but it was too late to bounce back into the game.
Relief pitcher Josh Roenicke pitched two innings and did not receive any run or hit on his consistent 2.67 ERA. He struck-out three but his power plays on which his struck-out three could not help the Rockies to stop the Braves constant hammering.
On the other hand, the Braves' pitchers and hitters played well as they put in a tremendous effort.
“He was terrific, And he's been terrific for a while. He had three pitches for strikes whenever he wanted them. Unfortunately, with the way he's been throwing the ball, we pretty much put him in a rocking chair right from the outset," said Colorado manager Jim Tracy for Braves’ starter who literally won the game for his team.
Especially starter Kris Medlen played with enormous energy and pitched nine innings and received only one run and five hits. He retired 12 and remained calm on the mound as his ERA stayed consistent at 1.56.
