Colorado Rockies drub Cincinnati Reds 12-4 at the All American Ball Park – MLB news
Colorado Rockies gave the Cincinnati Reds a bit of a drubbing in their own backyard as they beat the hosts 12-4 at the All American Ball Park on Wednesday, June 5, 2013.
In the process, the Rockies became the second team this season to win a series against the Reds playing at home.
The game was characterised by some tremendous hitting by the Rockies who were able to hit a whopping six home-runs, three of them by Carlos Gonzalez and a 5-for-5 performance by Troy Tulowitzki including two homers.
Carlos, better known as CarGo, got the Rockies of to a start with a solo home-run in the top of the first innings. However, four runs in the bottom of the innings gave signs of early dominance from the home side. That was all they could score in the ballgame
and the Rockies than took control of things.
Troy got a two-run long ball in the third. Cargo added three more in the fifth as he went long with two bases loaded. Todd Helton scored a two–run home-run in the seventh innings as well before Jordan Pacheco got an RBI double to up the score to nine in
seven innings.
CarGo went deep in the top of the eighth innings for the third time; Tulo also got another home-run in the same innings to complete the scoring for the day.
Dusty Baker, the manager for the Reds summed up the situation in an appropriate manner. He felt that the hitting by the Rockies was a bit contagious as everyone joined the party.
“I tell you, that was a real whooping right there,” Baker said. “I haven't seen that many balls hit that hard ... you knew they could hit, and once they started hitting, it gets contagious.”
The hero of the night Carlos felt that they were playing against one of the toughest oppositions in the National League who can really play ball.
“This is one of the toughest teams in the National League,” Gonzalez said. “They can really play baseball.”
Veteran Todd Helton was also pleased by the performance as he knew that taking the series against the Reds is not an easy task. He was happy with the good job that was done by the team.
“Hopefully, we have some momentum, and it carries over,” Helton said. “To beat these guys two out of three is big. That's a good team over there. So, we did a good job tonight.”
The win brings the Rockies back into the second position in the National League West. They have won four of the last five games which are good numbers showing they carry momentum.
Last evening Troy Tulowitzki had hoped that they will be able to beat the Reds in the backyard and he did play a significant role in achieving that. Certainly, these are some great signs for the Colorado ballclub.
