Colorado Rockies edge Chicago Cubs 4-3 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies edge past the Chicago Cubs 4-3 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, August 25 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Rockies’ upfront batting line-up played wonderfully and earned a great victory. They never let the Cubs’ dominate them and eventually rattled them with their intense focus.
Carlos Gonzalez ran for an RBI in the seventh and helped the Rockies’ defeat the Cubs in style.
"It's good for our kids, as young as we are, To be involved in games like this, and the realization we are playing in this type of game, there is no room for error," manager Jim Tracy said for his left fielder.
Tracy added, "What we did today that we didn't do yesterday was execute late in the game to win a one-run game, We took a terrific job from Carlos Torres through all the guys to (Betancourt), their aggressiveness throwing strikes."
On his three at-bats, Gonzalez’s slugging percentage also remained consistent at .535.
Along with Gonzalez, right fielder Andrew Brown also played well and scored one run and smashed one hit on his slugging percentage of .385.
Shortstop Jonathan Herrera also did well on his four at-bats as his slugging percentage of .337 was also one of the strongest in the rest of the Rockies' roster.
Pinch hitter Josh Rutledge ran for two RBIs and scored a run on his single at-bat. He played well and remained calm on his .636 slugging percentage.
Rockies' pitchers also did well on the mound as they pitched quite accurately and proved too good for the Cubs.
“We were on our own, Nothing was put on, it wasn't a signed steal. While [Brothers] was warming up, we talked to [first-base coach Dave] McKay about it,” Cubs' manager Dale Sveum.
Especially Alex White, who pitched four solid innings, was the most successful pitcher in the Rockies’ roster.
He allowed three runs and five hits only while he also struck-out four potential Cubs’ hitters which ultimately proved one of the winning factors for the Rockies.
