Colorado Rockies edge Chicago Cubs 7-5 – MLB Recap
Colorado Rockies edge past the Chicago Cubs 7-5 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Thursday, September 27 at Coors Field in Denver.
Rockies' batters played beautifully and earned a great victory against the Cubs.
"We've had enough guys that are out here for a long enough period of time, the way they're playing the game they have a real belief in themselves that they belong here as major leaguers, With the guys we don't have available, the surplus of quality position players is really, really special," Jim Tracy said.
Shortstop Josh Rutledge scored one run on one hit for the Rockies and provided them a decent start which steered them to a graceful victory. He batted four times and maintained his slugging percentage at .498.
Left fielder Charlie Blackmon supported his team-mates and proved his hitting prowess as he scored one run and smashed one hit on his four at-bats. He played well and maintained his slugging percentage at .396.
First baseman Jordan Pacheco also came to bat and literally took the game away from the Cubs with his exceptional hitting as he scored two runs on two hits along with three RBIs on his persistent slugging percentage at .422.
Along with hitters, the Rockies’ pitchers also played well and earned a great victory for their team. They all pitched intelligently and never let the Cubs’ hitters to play freely.
"We were one hit away from tying that game after a tough day, where balls were hit really hard and had nothing to show for it, It was nice to be one ball from hitting the outfield grass to tying it up," manager Dale Sveum said on his team’s poor performance which did not show any fighting spirit against the Rockies.
Jhoulys Chacin pitched five innings and received only three runs and seven hits along with one homer. He struck-out two while he managed to maintain his ERA at 4.78.
Reliever Josh Outman played exceptionally with his 1.1 inning spell as he allowed only one hit. Not receiving any run, he struck-out one on his 8.29 ERA which eventually helped the Rockies overthrow the Cubs in style.
