Colorado Rockies edge New York Mets 1-0 – MLB Update
Colorado Rockies surprised the New York Mets with an impressive 1-0 win at Citi Field in New York on Thursday, August 23 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Rockies pitching rotation, in particular, created all sorts of problems for the Mets’ batting line-up. Tyler Chatwood, Adam Ottavino, Rex Brothers, William Harris and Matt Belisle combined to pitch nine scoreless innings to help the Rockies prevail in a
low scoring thriller. Third baseman Chris Nelson drove in the only run of the game.
"I was getting close to the 75 pitches, so they made the decision," Chatwood said. "You always want to be economical. I think that's your job as a starting pitcher, to go as deep as you can in a game. And I think that 75 pitches kind of makes you go right
after the guy."
"I think we're throwing the ball really well right now as a staff," Chatwood added.
"What we just did today is not easy to do. It's not easy to do -- sweep a four-game series on the road," Manager Jim Tracy said.
Credit should be given to the Rockies for the way they have come out of the slump. Showing great improvement in their game-play, they outclassed the Mets in another nail biting encounter. With their incredible win against the inform opponent, the Rockies
also completed an emphatic series sweep against the Mets.
Although the Rockies are out of the playoff race, they will be looking to end the season on a positive note to give their fans something to cheer about.
Mets, on the other hand, will be extremely disappointed with their effort in a series that was extremely important to them. With end of the season coming near, they will be looking to up their game-play but that did not turn out to be the case against the
Rockies in this series. They were humiliated in front of their home crowd in all four games of the series and it will be interesting to see if they can put things back on the winning track.
