Colorado Rockies edge Washington Nationals 11-10 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies edge past the Washington Nationals in the fourth and final game of their four-game regular series encounter on Thursday, June 28 at Coors Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Rockies played better than the Nationals and squeaked past with a one run advantage.
Leading early with a seven run advantage into just second inning, the Rockies never looked back to keep the Nationals under pressure and eventually won in style.
"We made it a lot harder on ourselves than we needed to," manager Jim Tracy said.
Though the Nationals also came very close with their quick ten runs, but they still could not match the Rockies’ brilliance and lost in the end with bitter humiliation.
Second baseman Marco Scutaro played brilliantly for the Rockies and made two runs on three hits along with one RBI.
"Earlier I was a little more aggressive, Then when I got two strikes, I was trying pretty much to shorten my swing up and just try to make contact." Scutaro said.
Left-fielder Carlos Gonzalez also contributed well in the Rockies win with his two runs, three hits and two RBIs.
Not only the batters, Rockies’ rotation also played well and held the Nationals with extreme power. They did not give any big loop-holes and stayed calm on the mound which proved helpful in the Rockies win.
Josh Outman pitched three innings and received five runs as he also struck-out four Nationals' batters and proved his valour.
"I think I pitch better when the game's on the line, I just came in and wanted to throw up a zero. I knew we would score eventually." said Ottavino who pitched two scoreless innings.
On the other hand, the Nationals’ starting pitcher Edwin Jackson played poorly and received eight runs on ten hits. He also gave eight earned runs and received a homer as his ERA rose to 3.57.
"I feel the loss was on me, any time the bullpen has to come in the fourth inning, it is not a great feeling when you are the starter that day." said Jackson.
The Rockies will be happy with their performance as they managed to take a decent victory over the Nationals.
