Colorado Rockies edge past Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1 in the first game of their two-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, May 16 at Coors Field, Denver in 2012 Major League Baseball season and got a strong position ahead of their big series against the Seattle Mariners.
The oldest active player in the Major League, Jamie Moyer rattled the Diamondbacks’ offence and literally handcuffed as they just stole one from him.
Moyer, 49 year old prodigy, remained confident on the mound for over six innings giving no chance to his opponents who are struggling to keep up the pace with consistent performance.
"I thought it was going to roll foul, And I feel like I hesitated just a little bit, and then ... as I was running down the line, I saw the pitcher stop and the first baseman, I think he picked it up and he was going to throw it to the pitcher and then he realized the pitcher wasn't (covering the bag). So, then it became, I guess, a slow crawl to first base." Moyer said after the game when several reporters caught him for a potential interview.
Moyer added with confidence regarding his performance in the game, "I feel like when you're on the field, if you can't give your best effort, then you shouldn't be out there.”
On the other hand, the Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin could not show the real resilience and went with total six runs and nine hits. He was the real difference between both team’s offence and eventually gave the chance to the Rockies who finished it off in style.
The Rockies went into early two-run lead in the second inning and further strengthened it to five runs. Though, the Diamondbacks tried to bounce back in the seventh, but Colorado remained dominant and won the game in ninth.
Before winning this and previous game against the San Francisco Giants, the Rockies have also ended the four-game losing streak.
In the meanwhile, with this win, the Rockies have also improved their winning percentage to .417 and now sitting quite comfortable in National League West at fourth position.
