Colorado Rockies edge past the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-5 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, October 1 at Chase Field in Arizona.
“Nobody wants to lose 100 games in a season, Now that that's over with, we just want to finish the season strong. Guys are out there fighting for positions now, We have a lot of guys coming back next year, and you want to be on the 25-man (roster)," Chris Nelson said on his team’s performance and talked to the media regarding all the different aspects of the game.
Rockies’ played beautifully and earned a great victory in the end. They started well and finished it off in style. Rockies’ upfront batting line-up and pitchers played with great energy and won with ease.
“You look at the bullpen -- 5 1/3 (innings), seven hits, four runs but four walks, That is just a killer and very indicative of what we haven't done. The walks really hurt us," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said on his team’s performance.
Second baseman Josh Rutledge scored one run and smashed one hit along with one RBI on his seven at-bats. He played offensively and rattled the Diamondbacks with big hits. He showed his aggressive game and maintained his slugging percentage at .483.
Centre fielder Tyler Colvin added one run and smashed two hits along with one RBI on his consistent six at-bats. He played well and proved one of the winning factors for the Rockies with great energy on his persistent .532 slugging percentage.
Along with batters, the Rockies' pitchers also showed their power play. They restricted the Diamondbacks giving only five runs.
Drew Pomeranz pitched five innings and received two runs on his 4.93 ERA. He struck-out seven and proved his valour.
Relief pitcher Adam Ottavino also played well as he did not receive any run or hit on his two innings. He struck-out three while his ERA remained consistent at 4.58.
Closer Josh Outman also played well as he pitched 0.2 innings and received two runs. He struck-out two while his ERA remained at 8.33.
