Colorado Rockies edge past Atlanta Braves 6-0 – MLB Recap
Colorado Rockies shut-out the Atlanta Braves 6-0 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, September 4 at Turner Field in Atlanta.
Rockies' upfront batting line-up played well and earned a great victory. Their experienced players contributed with huge confidence and won in style.
"One big key to the game tonight was the fact Drew was fighting his command but he got a couple big outs when he needed to get them which actually kept them off the board," Rockies' manager Jim Tracy said.
Tracy added, "We are without some significant people, For him to continue to do the job that he's doing, I think you have to tip your cap to him. When I say hitting hasn't been easy, I think the opposition is well aware of the damage he can do. There are times they are not going to afford him a whole lot of opportunity."
Carlos Gonzalez scored one run and smashed two hits along with one RBI. He did well on his four at-bats as his slugging percentage was remained consistent at .532.
Right fielder Tyler Colvin also played well as he added one run and smashed one hit on his .561 slugging percentage.
This was certainly a team effort by the Rockies as they played as one unit and never showed any worrying signs against the Braves during the whole match.
Along with batters, the Rockies' pitchers also played well and earned a great victory in the end.
Drew Pomeranz pitched three innings and received only five hits. He did not go for any run and maintained his ERA at 4.93. He struck-out two and proved one of the winning factors for the Rockies.
Relief pitcher Carlos Torres pitched three innings and he also remained calm on the mound as he pitched accurately. He did not receive any run or hit while he maintained his ERA at 3.86.
On the other hand, the Braves' starter Tommy Hanson did not play well and lost the game with bitter humiliation.
He pitched 5.2 innings and allowed two runs and five hits on his 4.40 ERA. Though he retired eight batters but he still could not save the game for the Braves.
