Colorado Rockies edge past Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 in their last game of 2012 Major League Baseball regular three-match series on Wednesday, May 2 at Coors Field, Denver, Colorado.
With this win the Rockies have also won the series 2-1.
Both teams played an even game until the fifth inning, but last two innings proved helpful to the Rockies who took the game away scoring three extra runs.
Pinch hitter Jason Giambi’s homer in ninth innings was tremendous on which power hitter Eric Young Jr. and second baseman Marco Scutaro scored two more runs and stunned the Dodgers.
Giambi said, “It's a dream spot to be in -- that situation with CarGo behind you, It makes a tough decision for people. You're not out of the woods walking me right there. You load the bases for CarGo? He's been so hot. I figured I'd get something to hit. I'm grateful for the opportunity, That's what I'm here for, try to get those big hits."
The defeat is certainly alarming for the Dodgers who were going quite smooth in this Major League competition.
Later, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said after the game, "It really doesn't matter at this point, I think he knows he missed it. I think Helton told him he was off the bag. We had a chance to get a run there.”
Throughout the game, the Dodgers pitchers showed some great resistance, but last two innings were proved to be the difference in the Rockies win. The Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw was hammered with five runs in just over seven innings and never looked comfortable on the mound.
Rest of the Dodgers’ pitchers including Jamey Wright and Scott Elbert could not get the right momentum and remained unable to provide any breakthrough to their team.
In the meanwhile, with this recent win, the Colorado Rockies are sitting in a good position. Rockies’ current record of 12-12 win-loss is certainly impressive while their .500 winning percentage is also well balanced. Experts believe that if the Rockies consistent form continued, more good results will be coming in next few days.
